WHAT IS RHYTHM?
Rhythm is the common language shared by every musician, instrument and genre of music. It is a mixture of sounds and silences, creating patterns of sounds that form one of the fundamental building blocks of music. As musicians we constantly use and explore rhythm, creating different patterns of sounds and silences and in the process, creating music!
RHYTHM IS EVERYWHERE!
Rhythm can be found everywhere! Take a moment to see if you can find any patterns of sound in your environment. Rhythm is present in your heartbeat, the cadence of your footsteps, typing on a keyboard, in the call of birds outside or the barking of a dog. While there are other factors that make rhythms sound “musical”, rhythm exists everywhere in the world around us.
